Subject:The Weekend
Time:3:07 pm.
Mood: grateful.
Music:"I Love Baby Cheesy" by Banco de Gaia.
So, I had a really awesome weekend... it went something like this:

Friday - I went with Chrissy, Liz, Kristen, and Matt to Hooters. I had never been there before, cuz it just seemed like a strange place. But it turns out they have pretty decent chicken wings for a decent price. We then proceeded on a lovely trip to Carl's. I mean, Carl's is awesome, so why not? We then saw Shyamalan's the Village. It turns out I guessed the main twist... but it was very creatively done and the mood is just really creepy, and the movie can be very scary but only if you let it. I would suggest it to anyone... but the more squeemish ones may need their mommies to tuck them in. Turns out Matt is a pretty cool fellow who enjoys much of the British humor that I enjoy ; always good to meet another Izzard fan.

Saturday - Driving up to Crystal Lake to go to a luau that Danielle hosted (hostessed?) . I had a really good time and it was fun to get to know some people I really didn't know very well, or had even only met once. The food was really good too; as it turns out, Danielle prepared everything including pork shish-kabobs and rice. To complete the effect there was authentic Hawaiian music, and, despite my musical snobbery, I enjoyed it. We played Catch Phrase, the electronic version I might add, and despite my technological savvy I had to ask the others many times how to work it. Oh well, it was good to see Danielle before she left, and team two kicked a lot of butt.

Sunday - Wake up in the hotel in which we got a room for very cheap. Pack my car and go to a nice buffet breakfast in the hotel... they had english muffins bigger than a bagel! It was so good. We finally got on the road and drove to my aunt and uncle's house where we were greeted by my four little cousins who were begging my sister and I to join them in the pool. After a couple of hours my grandpas plane finally came in and he finally got to the house, which was really cool because I haven't seen him in forever, and probably won't see him for a while. As usual with family that I don't see very often, I had to give fiull detail of my updated biography including my major, minor, clubs, sports (or lack of), friends, job, etc. At least this time I feel like I have more to tell, because school seems to be getting pretty busy and the 'real world' is coming up quick. We had a quick celebration of five birthdays in 25 minutes including DQ ice cream cake. Yum! I got some presents too, even though birthday is not until the 16th. Yikes... 20... that's a big number.

Well there it is, my first update in a month.

Music:Hybrid (Live at Maida Vale Studios, London).
So I had a week off, that was kinda cool. I drove all the way home to good ol' MN. My sister was in town at the same time for a couple days. We went and saw Pirates of Penzance at the Guthrie theatre and needless to say, it was really awesome. It's my favorite musical of all time. And APPARENTLY the woman who played Mabel also appeared in Drop Dead Gorgeous... so I guess I might have to see that again some time soon.

Work at the office of multi-cultural affairs is good i guess. It doesn't pay well at all, but it's 35 a week. I have applied to work at Best Buy as either a salesperson or cashier, though if I were able I would have applied for a couple other positions... I guess we'll see.

So I saw this thing on Sci-fi channel (yes I watch sci-fi, I'm a dork, I get it) and it was an advertisement for an upcoming miniseries or movie feature called 'Earthsea.' And I don't know about anyone else but I'm pretty damn excited. It's based off of at least the first two books of a trilogy by Ursula K. LeGuin starting with The Wizard of Earthsea. It's was one of my favorite books as a child. Anyway, I'm super excited. (And I'm sure that it has nothing to do with the fact that Kristin Kreuk is playing the female lead ;-) )

Last night I heard an explosion at 2:00 AM. It turns out that some douchebags lit a firework on a fire extinguisher causing it to explode, which then caused the entire 1st floor of Munsell to fill up with flame retardant chemicals, thus setting off the fire alarm. 20 min. later, the fire dept. shows up and did what they do best... look at things inquisitively.

I got (another) new AIM client, it's called Adium. So once again I've had to figure out preferences, but it's a lot cooler than that silly program that comes standard on these Apple computers. That program iChat... it should be called iDisgrace!

Oh and for the record, I would be the White Ranger...

So I've been increasingly sad this day and I've been trying to figure out why. After much contemplation, I've realized it is a sense of loss. I miss my green hat, I miss it a lot. I lost it last semester, and I don't think my life has ever been the same since. I might try to find a replacement hat when I am ready. But, I don't think I can move on, not just yet.

Subject:a little tired, a little happy
Time:4:11 pm.
Mood: tired.
Music:"Comfortably Numb" by The Scissor Sisters.
Ok, asleep at four, up at one, and it feels like I haven't slept at all. And waking up from a nightmare is not cool either.

I went and saw Troy yesterday, and frankly, I liked it. The big thing that needs to be considered is that it wasn't an 'adaptation' or a story 'based on' the Iliad. It was 'inspired by' and I think it shows. With that in consideration, I feel the story was well done, though very American, with its battle and romance and stuff. But I thought the characters were done really well, as was the acting; you could really point out each characters strengths and flaws... yes, even the wussy, pansy-ass Paris had strengths. And how they portrayed the characters made the story more interesting. Though, I would also say I found the token references to Aeneas and the 'Achilles Heel' slightly annoying and not well integrated... and I found the sound editing a bit slapdash. And the thing that I found interesting is that I really didn't know who to cheer for, the Greeks or the Trojans. Each side had a couple cool guys, and a load of bastards. ...But yeah, not faithful to the original text, but good anyways.

My may term 'class' is going a little behind schedule. To say the least. I'm always side-tracked during the day. For those of you who don't know, because I am not taking a May term course, my parents have designed an 'independent study course' for me to spend my time on instead. I have to complete tasks that will need to be for my future success as an individual (i.e. completing a resumé, informational interviews, looking into internships and the like). The class isn't going so well, I'll probably 'flunk,' but it's possible I could get an extension.

Last night was pretty fun. I was on duty, and Michael was at the hall desk. We watched an anime called 'Scrapped Princess.' The animation is really cool, and the fight scenes are amazing... but the dialogue is in Japanese, and the English subtitles are TERRIBLE!!! Really strange sentences like 'Pashihuxha is abandon princess, she will bring hurt the people of the world in 16th birthday, I heard the breeze," really detract from the overall experience. But I would say that making a La Bamba run helps. mmm kwesadillas.

Mood: bored.
Music:"Wrong Number" by The Cure.
So... I guess I'm a prisoner here. I can't leave campus unless I clear it with my hall director... man, and we have to eat gondola sandwiches AGAIN for dinner tonight...
I'm just a little frustrated I guess. It's not that bad. And who am I to complain? I don't have a may term class.

Ok, so yeah... this is my first update in how long? Ok, I get it! it's been a while. I am sorry.

So here I am. It's may term. I have most of my grades back so far from spring semester, and things are lookin' pretty good. I now finally have a full semester for the fall, and all four classes will count towards my major! I can't wait for graphic design!

I also plan to talk to some professors, but I'm definitely planning on independent study of Latin, though not for credit... and then (just to take up more of my time) I am going to talk to the French teacher about auditing French. Yes, yes, I know. This is like my fifth language now, but I enjoy them a lot. But yeah, that's all I have to say about that, I think.

Side note: is anyone else going to go to Van Helsing this Friday? No? Didn't think so.

And the final thing I feel I need to express is my utter feeling of 'whoa' that I got when I saw the preview for this Japanese movie 'Casshern.' (Casshern.com) The main character (who you now see as my user image) slices robots with his hand. WITH HIS HAND!! The movie just came out in Japan a week ago and it was directed by a fashion photographer/music video director, so I'm sure it would be visually appealing. But whatever, it will be at least a year before I can even see it...*tear*

I don't know if this will be my last entry for a while, who knows, I might actually decide to update it regularly. That's all, bye bye now.

Subject:...it's been a while
Time:10:14 pm.
Mood: amused.
Music:"Clocks (Röyksopp's Trembling Heart Mix)" by Coldplay.
Well clearly I haven't updated in a while, not that I've had time or anything,

But anyway, here's what's new (in mostly chronological order)

Training - I was incredibly busy with RA training seminars/presentations. Activities started at 8 AM and went all the way to 10 PM. Lots of free food though...still bitter about those chicken fingers...

Blue mattress - I was lucky enough to find one before the residents moved in. If you've ever slept on one, you know what I'm talking about.

Move-in - I was incredibly busy, moving stuff all over the place (and for some reason, I agreed to move stuff to the seventh floor).

Classes - I'm taking Information Systems (under the impression that it was a good introduction to business). I'm also taking an anthropology course about Japan, general psychology, and introductory Latin (yes, the language count is now up to four). Most aren't too bad yet, but I have some projects coming up soon so I'll be very busy.

Oral Sex - yes, I had Oral Sex in the basement of Ferguson Hall and it was fantastic. (Note to the reader: 'Oral Sex' is a program to help residents talk about sex, get rid of stereotypes, and to help the RA's spot the immature residents)

Parent's weekend - My parents came last weekend and we didn't do as much shopping as we had planned, however we did make shelves for the seemingly useless areas of my room. The shelves are made from pink foam board and are covered in fabric.

On the note about my room and furnishings: I bought a futon a few days ago ($90) and it fits very nicely into my room.

I bought a new receiver/speaker system for my room (thanks mom and dad) and I have it hooked up to my computer and turntable, soon I will have my dreamcast and a CD player hooked up as well.

Also attached to my receiver is a device made from scratch by my dad and his old college roommate: the light organ. It uses rope-lights or any other plug-able light and makes them brighter depending on the intensity of music coming through the speakers. The special thing about this device is that you can plug in any type of light into any of the three plugs that respond to different frequencies (bass, middle, treble).

Also, Amazon has taken all my money. There are so many new albums from artists I like, and I'm trying not to buy everything. Alcazar is coming out with 'Alcazarized,' Eiffel 65 has 'Sanremo 2003,' Enigma has 'Voyageur' (so excited), and Röyksopp's remix compilation 'Spoiler' (which features exclusive Coldplay remixes). Oh and Hybrid just came out with 'Morning Sci-Fi.'

Oh and speaking of Hybrid and their latest release...guess which devoted fan is going to Chicago in November to see them LIVE!

Ok...so I guess that about wraps it up for the past month or two.

This update is for the past two weeks and the next two weeks. I have no time whatsoever. But just so we are all on the same field, here's what's new with me.

I am moved in to my spacious (not really, but it's bigger than Ashley's :-) ) dorm room in Ferguson hall. I have bought a refrigerator that is cool. I am about to try Pepsi Vanilla, and I am just a little scared.

My Birthday is this saturday and I am pleased to say I have not been forgotten. Looks like a year of gift certificates and money...but I am not complaining. That's exactly what I need.

Now to reregister for classes for this fall and to finish unpacking.

Music:"Seven Years In Tibet" by David Bowie.
Ugh..very tiring work schedule, seven days in a row..

Work was very busy last night because for some reason people don't think they need reservations. And other people seemed to think that we had their reservation when we didn't. So naturally, I'm the one stuck giving people rooms and assigning suites to grumpy people that can't be satisfied anyway.

Ok, enough complaining. Last night at the hotel was kind of weird because a girl I met in the hospital over a year ago was checking in. We both did a double take; it was a little weird. Turns out she's a friend of one of the maintenance guys. Kinda cool to see people you haven't seen in a long time. Still don't know her first name though.

In other news, the fact that I'm gonna be an RA has finally hit me. I got my roster for this coming school year and the looming mayhem is so pungent it makes me sick. In addition to that, ORL just for fun decided to slap a couple other first years from Kemp Hall into my group. I understand why, but I wish they would've told me earlier instead of having me figure it out when I had to make three extra postcards. It should be fun or at least interesting working with international students; I just hope it's not a pain working with Kemp Hall.

So I just saw 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' and I can honestly say my money was not wasted; Keira Knightley is really hot. Oh...and the rest of the movie was cool too; (Captain) Jack Sparrow provided a stellar comic relief. Kudos to the makers of a fun movie!

Anyway, my trip to Colorado went fine. There's really not much to say...

I'm a master of stereo equipment. I have walked across the highest suspension bridge in the world. I'm not a fan of the 'Colorado Bulldog.' I have a hard time staying awake at higher altitudes.

And my ears hurt after descending that altitude in the span of two hours.

Subject:A feeling of regret, and more feelings of happiness
Time:1:04 am.
Mood: lonely.
Music:"A Feeling Of Care" by Athome Project.
My weekend in Chi-town was cool. It was really nice to see everyone again. We FINALLY saw 'Stepford Wives' so now we can make references to it and know what we're talking about.

While back in the IL, I made one of my periodic pilgrimages to the holy land...no, not Mecca...Virgin Records on Michigan Avenue.

I also finally saw "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and was impressed an highly disappointed at the same time. The characters were cool and there were even more literary references than I had anticipated, but the action (though voluminous) never seemed to grab my attention. Oh well...at least Dorian Gray was kick-ass, tho they didn't completely get his character correct....

Other news from around the world, and also from MN:
-IHOP has arrived! An IHOP (to the best of my knowledge, the only one in the twin cities area) has opened 8 minutes from where I work...ahhh, it's like like I'm back in Illinois.
-Coldplay has released an extremely limited edition 12" vinyl single of Röyksopp's "Clocks" remix. So limited that only one hundred are being sold online and 1000 more at shops in the UK.
-I recently got Röyksopp's "Sparks" single in the post via Amazon. Included was a remix of my favorite song of all time "So Easy." The remix is...well...so so. It would be really good to play at a club late at night, but it's kinda tough to listen to.
-Ladytron's newly released single 'Evil' kicks so much ass. It's addictive and the music video (available at video-c.co.uk) rock my proverbial socks off.

Well, that's it from MN...I'm tired after the 11 hr. shift I worked today, and I want sleep.

(as a small note from the future, I got ahold of one of the Coldplay records)

Subject:Busy Like The Bee
Time:8:35 pm.
Mood: exhausted.
Music:"Hungry Like The Wolf" by Duran Duran.
Is it just me or is summer going by really fast. I have been so busy lately, I have been churning at least 40 hrs. a week and very few days off. I know I babble about work a lot, but that is due to the fact that work IS my summer and I always have a lot of good stories.

I have learned one truth: 3 people checking out at the same time + 3 calls at once + 1 sleep deprived IWU student + the person who was supposed to help him calling in sick = I am extremely tired. I had to deal with 70 check-outs this morning, the most I have ever done. But I got through it, even though my arm hurts from repetitively hitting the computer keyboard. Also, due to the storms that have raged up her in the land of lakes, we had 22 workers from Xcel Energy come make reservations at once, for three nights each no less. I like to brag and say that I sold 66 rooms in 5 minutes.

I have observed some funny things that I thought were pretty funny as well. I saw this kid today who was about 2 and a half feet tall but he had Hulk hands on. He was constantly banging them together in the most adorable fashion so as to create the signature Hulk growling that comes from the toy hands. Occasionally, the young kid decided to add his own growling.

Also, some WWII veterans were staying at our hotel for a reunion and from the front desk I could hear them playing Dutch bingo. If you don't know what that is, it's when two people discuss their lineage back to the point where they believe they are related (somebody ask Chrissy if that's right...).

On my days off I have been trying to enjoy the company of my friends here (in some instances I have been unsuccessful). However, when I invited my friend Rachel over we had a movie marathon that was really fun. And it was nice to see her 'cuz I hadn't even heard from her since before spring break.

We watched three movies: we went to see Dumb & Dumberer. Yes, we did. And it was funny, but it wasn't hilarious...I am glad we only spent 5 for the matinee showing. We rented two others: "Equilibrium" (Christian Bale, Taye Diggs, and Sean Bean) and "Master of Disguise" with Dana Carvey. If you ever decide to see Master of Disguise, beware that it sucks..it just downright sucks. That is not to say it isn't funny at all. I find some parts hilarious (e.g. Dana Carvey's use of the word 'ransackery'). But it is very annoying and has no plot so prepare. Equilibrium was very cool however. It had action scenes that remind people of the Matrix, the acting goes well with the plot, and apparently Ebert & Roeper agreed and gave it two thumbs up! So go rent it!

I finished Harry Potter 5, and was a little disappointed, though not un-pleased. I think I had my hopes a little too high.

But I don't really feel like writing anymore now. I will leave my opinions on Harry Potter until next time...

Music:"The Great London Traffic Warden Massacre" by Morcheeba.
stressed...

Yesterday I was put through a wonderful 15 hour work day...it started with training early in the morning. It ended with my standard 8 hr shift that ended at 11. Let's just say I'm a little tired. On the bright side, I won $12.00 in cash and a gift certificate for a night in a jacuzzi suite (^nudge-nudge, ^wink-wink). I don't know what I'm gonna do with a night in a jacuzzi suite...it expires next May, so maybe I can find something to do with it by then. The other good thing about yesterday was the fact that I realized that in the past two weeks, I have racked up over 70 hours at work...woohoo! Money!

Of course, the downside I have been experiencing of my job is the crazy, strange people that come into the hotel. I had to deal with two grumpy Russian businessmen who wanted me to dry-clean the entire wardrobe. For other examples, see the quotes mentioned in my previous journal entry.

I'm a little disappointed that I won't, repeat won't, be seeing Journey, Styx, and REO Speedwagon tomorrow at the Xcel Energy Center. I almost got box seats to the concert but my dad was too lazy to ask his connections for the tickets...and the fact that I have relatives here this weekend.

My mom's entire side of the family is here. Her cousins, her parents, her sisters and ALL the children that come with. It's not a heck of a lot of people, but it's certainly more than I'm used to.

My room is almost presentable and I'm pretty proud of the way it's turning out.

Beyond that, I'm excited to see some movies..especially Alex & Emma. Is it possible anyone can get cuter than Kate Hudson?? No, it's not possible.

And there you have it: I work, I win, I visit, Kate Hudson is damn cute.

Music:"Electric Barbarella" by Duran Duran.
So, I guess I'm home. It's been a week. A weird week, but comfortable.

The first thing I did after I unloaded my stuff from my car was to completely tear apart and rearrange my room. It's a whole lot better now, but it's still not clean.

I am working again at my old summer job at the Best Western in White Bear Lake, MN (the city where F. Scott Fitzgerald grew up, in case anyone wanted to know). It pays well enough, and it's not too hard; I'm working 4-5 shifts a week (32-40 hrs).

I'm a little disappointed that I couldn't go to see Dan Akroyd at the Mall of America this morning. I had to work this afternoon and needed to mow the lawn.

Which reminds me: I'm also working for my parents a little. I tidy up the house, vacuum, wash floors, dust, the works.

Also, FYI to those fans of TLC's "Trading Spaces," they'll be filming in St. Paul (that big city in Minnesota that I live in) for the next couple of weeks.

In new music news, Röyksopp, the group I saw live and met in Chicago over spring break, is releasing their new single 'Sparks' in a few days. One version of the single includes a long-awaited remix of 'So Easy' which just happens to be my favorite song of theirs.

My hotel just got a new restaurant put in. This created confusion when I went to get a coke from the bar. I got a coke, but I remarked to my co-worker that this coke I was drinking was probably the best I had had. It turns out they don't serve Coke at Rudy's Redeye Grill; they serve Pepsi. So Pepsi is essentially really good Coke. go figure...

Well that's my summer so far. I'll remember some stuff by tomorrow I'm sure, so I guess I'll post then. For now, it's time to go to sleep.

I have had a great weekend.

Actually the weekend kinda started when we went to see the Matrix...which was really kick-ass. The special effects were especially stunning, and even though there were scenes that should've been shorter...but the music was really cool, so I think it makes up for it. We also stayed after the credits to see the trailer for 'Revolutions,' and now I'm even more excited to see it in November. When we tried to start Chrissy's car to get back to campus, it didn't start. So we had to walk back to campus...

On Friday night we went bowling at the local lanes; it was really cheap ($2) for unlimited bowling. I had a nice game going, but we had to leave for a movie. We went to go see 'Down With Love' which is probably the cutest movie I've seen. The dialogue was great and I loved the way its style was like an older movie. After the movie, I went to Steak & Shake for the third time in my life and had an excellent BBQ burger...it was so good.

Yesterday, we went to Starved Rock State Park. We hiked the whole time, which was really fun. The air was really fresh; it was nice to get away from the city. The weather was good, and the company was better. Last night we decided to get ourselves to ghetto Kroger and buy some pints of Ben & Jerry's ("it comes in pints?"). We pigged-out while we watched the well-dressed Brad Pitt and in Ocean's Eleven.

Counting down two hours until we watch The Matrix Reloaded. I'm really excited. This will continue in the tradition of seeing the Matrix movies on the first day of release. I saw the first one on the first day, now I'm seeing the second one on first day. Why do I care? It's only first day right? Yeah, but it gives me something to care about and feel special about. Once the next X-Men movie comes out, my dad and I will see that at the midnight showing like we did the first two.

Other than that, not much else. It's nice to be done with homework though (at least for the time being).

Ok so today, I woke up and shut my alarm off and went back to sleep. Why? I don't know. But I did, and I woke up with 13 minutes to get to class. I still had to print my paper, prepare for my presentation, and study for the quiz. It all went fine, there were no real problems.

I'm trying to get tickets for The Matrix sequel, but I can't get ahold of the theater. I guess I'll try again later.

I got a bunch of CD's this past week; I've been waiting forever to get them, and they all decided to come at once. My new Baby V.O.X album, Devotion, kicks ass. The new single by iio titled 'At The End' kicks ass. The new album by 4 Strings kicks ass. The new album by Afro Celts kicks ass. It's nice to have a record collection that kicks ass.
